continues to limit Darfur aid operations ETHIOPIA-SOMALIA: Asylum-seekers living rough An estimated 50,000 asylum-seekers from Somalia have entered neighbouring Ethiopia in the past eight months,
according to preliminary findings of an assessment team from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). "They are in need of food and other emergency supplies," said Millicent

Acute watery diarrhoea claims 39 lives Thirty-nine people have been confirmed dead after an outbreak of acute watery diarrhoea in the Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle region, south-central Somalia,
according to the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO). From 5 January to 30 January, a total of 312 cases were recorded in the Hiiraan region, of whom 34 died, according to WHO Somalia.

outbreak of cholera in the towns of Beletweyne, Buulo Burte and Jalalaqsi in the Hiiraan region of central Somalia, medical sources said on Monday. "At least 82 people, 50 of them children, have
died of cholera in the three districts," said Hassan Odawa, programme manager for the International Medical Corps (IMC) in Beletweyne, the regional capital of Hiiraan.

areas but security concerns are still restricting activities in others, the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) said. Operations had resumed in Khor Abeche in South Darfur and the eastern Jebel
