NEW DELHI, Dec 8 (Reuters) - The results of a month-long series of state elections were being released on Monday, which should reveal the political mood of an India reeling from the Mumbai attacks and hit by an economic slowdown.

Here are the latest counts taken from election officials at 2115 local (1545 GMT).

Final results will be known on Monday evening.

The numbers below refer to number of constituencies in which parties are leading.

The numbers in brackets are the seats where the result has been declared.

Congress: 42 (42)

BJP+ : 23 (23)

Others: 4 (4)

Incumbent: Congress

* RAJASTHAN

Congress: 96 (96)

BJP+ : 77 (77)

Others: 27 (27)

Incumbent: BJP

* MADHYA PRADESH

Congress: 70 (69)

BJP: 144 (142)

Others: 16 (16)

Incumbent: BJP

* CHHATTISGARH

Congress+ : 33 (31)

BJP: 45 (39)

Others: 2 (2)

Incumbent: BJP
