KABUL, Sept 9 (Reuters) - Afghan President Hamid Karzai broke off from a speech and was taken away from a ceremony in Kabul's sports stadium on Sunday after apparent gunshots were heard in the vicinity, witnesses said.

Karzai, who has survived several assassination attempts in recent years by suspected Taliban members, was led from the stadium by his U.S.-trained bodyguards.
