ISLAMABAD, July 3 (Reuters) - The deputy leader of a radical mosque surrounded by Pakistani security forces said eight students had been killed in shooting that erupted after clashes broke out on Tuesday.

Police and a hospital doctor had earlier said one paramilitary trooper had been killed and two students died from wounds during the clashes at Islamabad's Lal Masjid, or Red Mosque.

"They are behaving brutally. So far eight of our students have been killed," Maulana Abdul Rashid Ghazi, the deputy leader of the mosque's Taliban style movement, told Reuters by telephone from Lal Masjid.
