KUT, Iraq, Dec 2 (Reuters) - A truck killed 18 people and injured eight on Saturday when it ploughed into commuters waiting at a busy bus station south of Baghdad in what police described as an apparent accident.

Police sources said a preliminary investigation showed the incident, in the small town of Wihda, was an accident, but they were still trying to find the truck driver, who had fled the scene.

Hospital officials said 18 people were killed and five of the eight injured were in a serious condition.
