RAFAH, Egypt, Nov 1 (Reuters) - Egyptian police shot at a group of Eritrean migrants trying to illegally enter Israel, wounding one man, a security source said on Thursday.

Egyptian police spotted the group of about 13 at the Israeli border in central Sinai and ordered them to stop, opening fire when they did not, the source said.

One Eritrean man suffered a bullet wound to his foot, and was being treated in hospital in Rafah, while four others were taken into police custody. The others managed to escape in the direction of the Israeli border, according to the source.

Egypt's eastern border is the scene of frequent attempts by Egyptians and foreigners at crossing into Israel to smuggle goods or search for work.
