SARAJEVO, June 1 (Reuters) - Bosnian Serb war crimes fugitive General Zdravko Tolimir was being held at a NATO base outside Sarajevo on Thursday awaiting a flight to detention at the Hague tribunal in the Netherlands, officials said.

European Union peace-force spokesman Achim Winkler said a EUFOR helicopter brought Tolimir from the Bosnian Serb capital Banja Luka to Sarajevo overnight.

"Tolimir was held in the Butmir NATO base near Sarajevo," he said. NATO spokesman Derek Chappel said NATO was involved in providing safe transfer but "for reasons of operational security I cannot say anything more".
