Bombers kills nine in central Baghdad

BAGHDAD, Feb 1 (Reuters) - Six people were killed and 12 wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a minibus in the central Baghdad district of Karrada on Thursday, police said.

Shortly afterwards, a car bomb in Baghdad's central Rusafi shopping district exploded, killing three and wounding seven otehrs.

Separately, a mortar barrage hit the northern Baghdad Sunni district of Adhamiya, killing one person and wounding nine, police said.

Baghdad is the epicentre of sectarian violence between Iraq's minority Sunnis and majority Shi'ites that has killed tens of thousands of people. Shi'ite Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki has announced a planned, U.S.-backed crackdown in the capital.
