MOSCOW, Feb 3 (Reuters) - An election official was kidnapped in Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia on Saturday, an Abkhaz official was quoted as saying.

Ruslan Kishmaria, a senior Abkhaz government official, told Russia's Interfax news agency that David Sigua was kidnapped by a group who stormed his house just before dawn.

"There is no doubt that Georgia's special forces are behind the kidnapping," he said.

Georgian officials were unavailable for comment.

Violence and sporadic shootouts are frequent in Abkhazia, a province on the Black Sea which broke away from Georgia after the Soviet collapse. Georgian forces fled the Russia-backed region in 1992-1993 after a conflict with local separatists.
