BAGHDAD, Feb 3 (Reuters) - A car bomb killed at least eight people and wounded 34 others when it exploded in a busy market in central Baghdad on Saturday, a police source said.

The blast in Sadriya, a bustling area where Shi'ite Kurds predominate, sent plumes of black smoke into the air and emergency vehicles rushed the wounded to local hospitals.

A witness said locals were helping casualties who had been shopping for household items in the central Baghdad market.

The area has witnessed a number of large bombings in recent months.
