LAGOS, May 7 (Reuters) - U.S. oil company Chevron <CVX.N> reduced its Nigerian oil output by 42,000 barrels per day on Monday in response to a community protest at a facility in the Niger Delta, a spokesman said.

The dispute, which security sources attributed to compensation for an oil spill, is already under negotiation and will be resolved by Tuesday at the latest, the spokesman added.
