June 8 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq at 1700 GMT on Sunday:

* KIRKUK - A vehicle driven by a suicide bomber blew up near a patrol base in Iraq, killing one U.S. soldier and wounding 18 others, U.S. forces said. Two Iraqi contractors were also wounded in the attack in Kirkuk province, about 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

Iraqi police and medical sources said five civilians were wounded in the attack, which they said was by a suicide truck bomb against a joint Iraqi and U.S. base at al-Rashad, 25 km (15 miles) southwest of the city of Kirkuk.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb killed a U.S. soldier when it struck his vehicle on Saturday, in eastern Baghdad, the U.S. military said.

HIT - Iraqi police arrested 13 suspected members of al Qaeda in the town of Hit west of Baghdad on Saturday and seized 58 explosive belts prepared for suicide bombings, a local official said.

BAGHDAD - A mortar bomb killed at least three people and wounded seven outside the gates of the Ministry of Defence in central Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - An explosion killed at least four police recruits and wounded 23 others in Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb targeting a police patrol near the Turkish embassy in Baghdad wounded two policemen and three civilians, police said.

BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb targeting a police patrol wounded two policemen and two civilians in the New Baghdad district of eastern Baghdad.

AZIZIYA - Gunmen killed five shepherds on Saturday and burned two of their vehicles in Aziziya, 70 km (45 miles) southeast of Baghdad.

MOSUL - Gunmen attacked a police patrol in western Mosul on Saturday, killing three policemen and wounding five people, including two policemen, police said. Mosul is 390 km (240 miles) north of Baghdad.

BAGHDAD - Four bodies were found with gunshot wounds in different districts of Baghdad on Saturday, police said.

ISKANDARIYA - A roadside bomb blew up near a vehicle, killing one occupant and wounding two others on Saturday in Iskandariya, 40 km (25 miles) south of Baghdad, police said.

BAGHDAD - U.S. forces arrested an Iranian-backed militant and his associate on Saturday during operations in eastern Baghdad's Rusafa, the U.S. military said.
