BAGHDAD, Sept 9 (Reuters) - Heavily armed gunmen killed four policemen at a police station in northern Iraq on Sunday and then blew up the building, police said.

They said the attack by nearly two dozen gunmen armed with automatic rifles and rocket-propelled grenades took place at a village near the town of Baiji, an oil refining centre 180 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad. Four policemen were wounded.

After the initial assault, the gunmen planted bombs around the police station and blew it up, police said.

Iraq's police are often outgunned by militants, who regularly attack police stations and checkpoints.
