Car bomb kills 2 Iraqi soldiers in northern oil hub

BAGHDAD, Dec 9 (Reuters) - A suicide car bomb killed two Iraqi soldiers and wounded seven in the oil refining city of Baiji on Sunday, an army source said.

The attack came a day after a car bomb killed eight people and wounded 40 in the northern oil hub, the latest in a spate of attacks in the country's north.

The army source in Baiji, 180 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad, said the two soldiers were killed when the bomber rammed into their checkpoint.

An al Qaeda-linked militant group issued a threat earlier this week vowing a wave of car bomb attacks and strikes against Iraqi security forces.

Security crackdowns in Baghdad and western Anbar province have forced some militants to relocate to northern areas. (Writing by Dean Yates, Editing by Ibon Villelabeitia)
