FACTBOX-Asian winners of Nobel Peace Prize

Dec 10 (Reuters) - Following is a list of Asian winners of the Nobel Peace Prize since it was set up in 1901:

2006 - Bangladesh's Muhammad Yunus and his Grameen Bank for work to lend to the poorest of the poor.

2003 - Iranian human rights lawyer Shirin Ebadi for her efforts for democracy and human rights, especially the rights of women and children in Iran and the Muslim world.

2000 - South Korean President Kim Dae-jung for his work for democracy and human rights in South Korea and in East Asia, especially for peace and reconciliation with North Korea.

1996 - Roman Catholic Bishop Carlos Belo and Jose Ramos Horta, for their work towards a peaceful solution to the conflict in East Timor and human rights.

1991 - Detained Burmese opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi.

1989 - The Dalai Lama, exiled spiritual and political leader of Tibet.

1979 - Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Leader of the Order of the Missionaries of Charity.

1974 - Former Japanese Prime Minister Eisaku Sato, who shared the award with Irish U.N. Commissioner for Namibia Sean MacBride.

1973 - Le Duc Tho from North Vietnam -- who declined the prize. The award was shared with U.S. former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger for a failed deal to end the Vietnam war.
