DIWANIYA - Iraqi special forces detained 12 militants suspected of links to the Mehdi Army militia of Shi'ite cleric Moqtada al-Sadr during two operations in Baghdad on Sunday, the U.S. military said. BAGHDAD - U.S. forces detained 17 suspected militants in raids in central and northern Iraq, the U.S. military said. ISHAQI - Gunmen kidnapped three brothers at a fake checkpoint near Ishaqi, 100 km (60 miles) north of Baghdad, police said. ISHAQI - Gunmen killed one person when they attacked the house of a tribal leader near Ishaqi on Monday, police said. BAGHDAD - Gunmen kidnapped army Brigadier-General Abdul Razaq Asel, director of a joint security centre in the northern city of Mosul, while he was visiting his family in the Adhamiya district in Baghdad on Monday, police said. BAGHDAD - Police found the bodies of 26 people around Baghdad on Monday. Most had been shot, victims of sectarian death squads.
