THE IRISH TIMES

- Billionaire property developer Liam Carroll is believed to have amassed a stake of 3.2 percen+t in Aer Lingus at a cost of 35 million euros. Mr Carroll did not comment when asked about his investment.

- Fianna Fail and Fine Gael are expected to spend close to 1 million euros between them in their campaigns urging support for the Lisbon Treaty, The Irish Times has learned.

IRISH INDEPENDENT

- The worst flooding in two decades left parts of the country facing an estimated 10 million euro clean-up bill after three major rivers broke their banks following torrential rainfall.

- Environment Minister John Gormley has won the EU's support for his plan to ban the traditional lightbulb. He said he had received extra assurance from the European Commission that it would allow the Irish ban to go ahead in January next year.

- Poultry producers in Ireland were urged last night to maintain the highest levels of vigilance after three swans were found dead in Dorset, Britain, with the lethal strain of bird flu.
