June 12 (Reuters) - The NATO soldier killed in a blast in southern Afghanistan on Monday was Canadian, Canada's Defense Ministry said in a statement. The soldier died when a roadside bomb exploded beside his vehicle about 25 miles (40 km) north of the southern city of Kandahar, said the ministry's statement released late on Monday. More than 4,000 people were killed in fighting in 2006, a quarter of them civilians and about 170 of them foreign soldiers killed in fighting or in accidents while on patrol.
