Bomb hits AK Party HQ in SE Turkey, 3 men injured

DIYARBAKIR, Turkey, Nov 1 (Reuters) - A bomb blast at an office building housing the ruling AK Party's provincial headquarters in the southeast city of Hakkari on Saturday injured three passers-by, Turkish officials said.

The percussion bomb -- known for making a loud noise but causing little damage -- broke glass in the office building in the central part of the city and damaged cars parked outside. Three men walking past the building at the time of the explosion were injured and taken to the hospital.

No one took immediate responsibility for the blast. Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan asked for solidarity, speaking at a party rally in the eastern city of Van.

"Terrorists try to feed on descrimination. We are aware of this and we will not give them an opportunity (to grow) ... We will continue shoulder to shoulder. If we do, terrorism does not have a chance," said Erdogan.

Violence has increased in the restive, mostly Kurdish region of southeastern Turkey as the military has increased its attacks on the ethnic separatist Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) bases in northern Iraq and its members inside the country.

Some 40,000 have been killed since 1984, when the PKK first took up arms to carve out an ethnic homeland in southestern Turkey. (Editing by Louise Ireland)
