JUBA, Sudan, Jan 12 (Reuters) - A driver working for the United Nations was killed and three people were injured when unidentified men with automatic weapons opened fire at their vehicle in southern Sudan this week, a U.N. statement said. The ambush took place on Wednesday on the road between the southern capital Juba and the town of Torit to the east, where the U.N. World Food Programme is supervising a road project. The statement, received on Friday, identified the driver as Emmanuel Chako Joseph, a 28-year-old Sudanese. The other casualties were two soldiers acting as escorts and an employee of the German development organisation GTZ, which is building the road for WFP. There have been at least three other ambushes on roads in southern Sudan so far this year, with eight people killed.
