March 13 (Reuters) - Following are security developments in Iraq at 1500 GMT on Thursday. * denotes new or updated item. * BAGHDAD - A bomb in a parked car killed 12 people and wounded 49 in the Bab al-Sharji area of central Baghdad, police said. * BAGHDAD - Gunmen killed Qassim Abdul-Hussein, the head of the circulation department for al-Muwatin newspaper, in a drive-by shooting in central Baghdad's Karrada district, said Jabbar Tarrad, the head of the Iraqi journalists' syndicate. KUT - U.S. soldiers and Iraqi militants exchanged rocket and mortar fire between a Mehdi Army stronghold and a U.S. base in Kut, 170 km (105 miles) southeast of Baghdad, Iraqi police and the U.S. military said. Police said two civilians were killed and six wounded, but the U.S. military said it had no information on civilian casualties. No U.S. soldiers were hurt. BAIJI - Two people were killed and two wounded when gunmen attacked a neighbourhood security checkpoint near the city of Baiji, 180 km (110 miles) north of Baghdad, police said. KIRKUK - A suicide car bomber killed an Iraqi army soldier and wounded 10 others in an attack on a security checkpoint near the city of Kirkuk, 250 km (155 miles) north of Baghdad, police said. AL-ZAB - Two members of a U.S.-backed neighbourhood security patrol were killed and six wounded by a suicide bomber wearing an explosives vest in the town of al-Zab near Kirkuk, police said. BAGHDAD - A roadside bomb wounded five people near a market in al-Shurta al-Khamissa in southwestern Baghdad, police said. BAGHDAD - The Iraqi army arrested 35 insurgents and 26 suspects in different parts of Iraq in the past 24 hours, the Defence Ministry said. UDHAIM - Two soldiers were wounded when a roadside bomb exploded close to an Iraqi army convoy near the town of Udhaim, north of Baghdad, police said. KIRKUK - A roadside bomb wounded three people in Kirkuk, police said. BAGHDAD - The bodies of four people were found in different areas of Baghdad on Wednesday, police said. QANDIL MOUNTAINS - Iran shelled bases used by Kurdish separatist rebels in the Qandil Mountains in northeastern Iraq for about 90 minutes, said the spokesman for Kurdish security forces in northern Iraq, Jabbar Yawar.
