COPENHAGEN, Oct 16 (Reuters) - A Danish army officer wounded in a clash with Taliban insurgents in Afghanistan's Helmand province on Monday has died, the Danish Central Army Command said on Tuesday. The officer, a major, was wounded when his unit came under mortar and rocket grenade fire while recovering an armoured personnel carrier that had been hit by a mine. He died at a field hospital before he could be transported to Denmark.

This month Denmark plans to increase the number of its troops in Afghanistan to about 550 from about 400.
