BISHKEK, July 18 (Reuters) - A woman set herself on fire and died in the Central Asian republic of Kyrgyzstan after a fight with her husband, domestic media reported on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old doused herself with petrol and set herself alight in the south of the impoverished Muslim country, the AKIpress news agency reported. She died in a local hospital.

Human rights defenders say self-immolation by women in Kyrgyzstan and other Central Asian states is often linked to domestic violence and the local practice of bride theft when teenage girls are stolen by force by their future husbands.
