BEIJING, April 24 (Reuters) - Rescuers have recovered the bodies of 11 miners trapped in a state-run coal mine in north China when a burst of gas and rubble on Friday blocked the way out, Xinhua news agency said on Tuesday.

The burst, in which gas, coal and rock are expelled at high speed without catching fire, occurred at the Taoer colliery in Handan, Hebei province, 440 km (270 miles) south of Beijing when 17 miners were underground, according to Xinhua.

Six were able to escape shortly after the accident.

"All the bodies of the miners had been retrieved by Tuesday morning," it said, citing the emergency rescue headquarters in the city.

Meanwhile, the deathtoll from another accident on Thursday at Dashucun mine, also in Handan, rose to 11 after rescuers found another body on Tuesday. Rescuers hold little hope of rescuing six other miners who remain missing, Xinhua said.

Both mines are state-run. China has the world's deadliest coal mining industry. Last year 4,746 coal miners were killed in thousands of gas blasts, floods and other accidents as mine owners pushed production beyond safety limits in the rush to make profits.

In neighbouring Henan province, 33 coal miners were feared dead after a gas blast last week left the Wangzhuang mine "a sea of fire".
