May 24 (Reuters) - Latest political and security developments in the Palestinian territories and Israel on Thursday:

*KHAN YOUNIS, Gaza Strip - Israeli helicopter fired missiles at Hamas Executive Force position in Khan Younis in southern Gaza Strip, wounding two members of the force and three civilians, local residents said.

*GAZA - Israeli aircraft attacked Hamas position in Gaza City. No casualties reported.

*RAFAH, Gaza Strip - Israeli air strike destroyed metal workshop. Israeli military said facility was an Islamic Jihad weapons factory.

WASHINGTON - U.S. State Department expressed misgivings about Israel's arrest of Palestinian Education Minister Naser al-Shaer of Hamas and 32 other officials in the occupied West Bank, but said Israel had a right to defend itself.

NABLUS, West Bank - Israeli undercover force, in a raid on a cafe, detained four wanted members of al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, part of President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah faction, local residents said. The Israeli military confirmed the arrests and said the force came under attack from three other gunmen during the incident and shot at least one of them.

JERUSALEM - The Israeli army said militants in Gaza fired seven rockets and a mortar bomb at southern Israel. No injuries were reported.

JERUSALEM - EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana called the Palestinian unity government non-functional, fuelling doubts it will be able to overcome internal fighting and garner international support.

GAZA - An Israel air strike destroyed a Hamas Executive Force position in Gaza City and damaged nearby buildings, wounding at least five people, local residents said. An Executive Force spokesman said the facility had been evacuated before the attack.

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip - Israeli helicopters fired missiles at an Executive Force position in the central Gaza Strip. There were no reports of casualties.
