Jassim al-Batatt was a news presenter at al-Nakheel, a local TV channel in southern Iraq. "He was very moderate, simple in his ways. His only concerns were his work and his family. He was liked by all his colleagues, and we don't know any reason why he should be killed," the station's manager, Adnan al-Yaseri, told Reuters. Iraq is the most dangerous place in the world for journalists. The New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists says 127 journalists and 50 other media workers have been killed in Iraq since the U.S. invasion in 2003.
