JENIN, West Bank, June 26 (Reuters) - A Palestinian man was killed on Tuesday as Israeli soldiers raided the home of a militant from the Islamic Jihad group in the occupied West Bank, a Palestinian security official said.

An Israeli military spokeswoman confirmed soldiers were operating in the area of the Jenin refugee camp, a stronghold of the militant group in the Palestinian territory. The spokeswoman had no further comment.

Witnesses said troops surrounded the home of a wanted Palestinian militant in the camp, and that a relative of the wanted man was killed in an exchange of fire between the soldiers and gunmen hiding inside the house.

Israel frequently raids Palestinian towns to arrest wanted militants it accuses of involvement in plotting or carrying out attacks against the Jewish state.
