CUMHURIYET - "Turkey is a single heart". The country celebrates Republic Day with the highest level of participation in recent years, with millions gathering in the country's squares to show again that the country's unity cannot be undermined. AKSAM - Military leaders attend the Republic Day commemorations with unsheathed swords, delivering the message that they are ready to defend the country, in a ceremony at the mausoleum of Turkey's founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in Ankara. HURRIYET - The prime target of a cross-border operation into northern Iraq would be the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) base in Qandil mountain, where the leadership of the militants is based, some 90 km (54 miles) from the Turkish border. MILLIYET - Iraqi Kurdish leader Massoud Barzani says the PKK militants must renounce violence or they will turn all Kurds against them, not just Turkey. SABAH - Some 250 Kurdish rebels who have been unable to cross the border back into Iraq because of the large military presence in the region are now under fire from some 40,000 Turkish soldiers in the region.
