FACTBOX-The world's top 25 greenhouse gas emitters

May 30 (Reuters) - More than 160 countries resume ongoing U.N.-led, climate talks in the next two weeks in Bonn, Germany, to agree a new global climate deal to come into force after the first round of the Kyoto Protocol ends in 2012.

Governments have committed to get a deal by the end of 2009.

The main sticking point is sharing the cost of re-deploying the world's energy system away from fossil fuels and deciding how soon emerging economies must adopt binding caps on greenhouse gases.

Kyoto commits some 37 industrialised countries to caps between 2008 and 2012, especially on emissions of the planet-warming gas carbon dioxide, produced from burning fossil fuels.

Global greenhouse gas emissions are rising every year, especially because rapid economic growth in China and India is fuelling massive demand for energy from burning high carbon-emitting coal.

Following is a table showing the world's top 25 emitters, ranked according to 2000 emissions of greenhouse gases in millions of tonnes (mT) of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e).

Analysts say China may have overtaken the United States in 2007 as the world's top carbon emitter. U.S. and European Union emissions of greenhouse gases fell in 2006.

Industrialised countries have to submit data annually to the United Nations to show their progress under Kyoto to cut greenhouse gases compared to a 1990 baseline.
