ANKARA, May 31 (Reuters) - Turkish police have detained eight people on suspicion of belonging to a militant religious group, the state Anatolian news agency said on Thursday.

The agency said the eight were detained on Wednesday evening in a police operation in several districts of the capital Ankara. Police also seized computers and documents, it said.

Police were not immediately available to comment on the report, which came one day after Anatolian reported the detention of 11 suspected members of al Qaeda in Istanbul, Turkey's largest city.

Turkey's private CNN Turk television said the Ankara detentions were part of an operation against al Qaeda in Turkey.
