Bomb in Iraq's Sadr City kills 5, wounds 28

BAGHDAD, July 15 (Reuters) - A bomb killed five people and wounded 28 others on Wednesday in Baghdad's Sadr City, a poor Shi'ite Muslim area of the Iraqi capital, police said.

Police said the explosion went off near a tent that was set up for a funeral in the sprawling, rundown area of northeastern Baghdad, home mainly to supporters of anti-American cleric Moqtada al-Sadr. Violence has dropped sharply in Iraq from the height of sectarian and insurgent bloodshed unleashed by the 2003 invasion to oust Saddam Hussein, but insurgents continue to stage regular attacks. Last Thursday, two bombs killed seven people and wounded 20 in a market in Sadr City. The attack comes two weeks after U.S. combat troops withdrew from city and town centres, shifting primary responsibility to local police and soldiers. (Editing by Matthew Jones)
