DUBAI, Aug 16 (Reuters) - A building under construction collapsed in Dubai on Sunday, but there were no reports of injuries, police sources said.

"A building on al-Ittihad road collapsed, police are investigating, but so far there are no injuries," a source said.

Al Arabiya said the building was eight storeys tall.

Dubai, one of seven emirates in the United Arab Emirates, had undergone a major building boom with scores of skyscraper -- including the world's tallest building -- built over the past few years.

The boom was sharply curtailed by the global finance crisis last year which resulted in project cancellations and job losses.

"The building was mostly offices," said a second police source. "Half of it has collapsed and the other half is still standing."

The reason for the collapse is still unknown, he said. (Reporting by John Irish and Tamara Walid)
