JOHANNESBURG, June 18 (Reuters) - South Africa has identified the first case of the H1N1 flu virus in the country, the Department of Health said on Thursday.

The patient, a 12-year-old who flew in from the United States on Sunday, was admitted to hospital on Monday and was kept in isolation. He was discharged and is recovering in isolation at home, the department said in a statement.

"The patient fitted the criteria as a suspected case and was dealt with in accordance with the World Health Organisation and the Department of Health guidelines in this regard." (Reporting by Marius Bosch; Editing by Jon Boyle)
