Ambush kills 7 Algerian police:newspaper

ALGIERS, Oct 22 (Reuters) - Seven Algerian police were killed and two others wounded in an ambush on Thursday in the region of Tizi Ouzou, some 100 km (60 miles) east of the capital Algiers, the El Watan newspaper's online edition reported.

The newspaper said when they were attacked the police were escorting private security contractors working for Canadian firm SNC-Lavalin <SNC.TO>. No foreigners were hurt in the attack, which took place at about 6:30 a.m. (0530 GMT), the paper said. (Reporting by Lamine Chikhi; Editing by Jon Hemming)
