Aug 3 (Reuters) - Nine foreign soldiers, including six Americans, were killed in Taliban strongholds in the south and east of Afghanistan at the weekend.

July was the deadliest month for foreign forces in Afghanistan since the Taliban were ousted in 2001, with at least 71 killed. August has so far followed that trend with violence escalating ahead of an Aug. 20 presidential poll, seen as a test for Washington and Kabul.

Here are figures for foreign military deaths as a result of violence or accidents in Afghanistan since 2001:

NATO/U.S.-LED COALITION FORCES:

United States 766

Britain 191

Canada 127

Germany 35

France 29*

Denmark 25**

Spain 25

Netherlands 19

Italy 15

Other nations 59

TOTAL: 1,291

NOTES:

** Figures supplied by Danish Central Command, includes one suicide.

* Figures supplied by French military.
