JERUSALEM, Jan 31 (Reuters) - A rocket fired by militants in the Hamas-controlled Gaza Strip struck southern Israel on Saturday, causing no injuries, the Israeli military said. The rocket, which landed near the Israeli city of Ashkelon, was one of a fewto hit the Jewish state since a Jan. 18 ceasefire with the Islamist group Hamas ended 22 days of fighting in the Gaza Strip. Israel usually responds to such rocket fire by attacking Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. Some 1,300 Palestinians were killed, including an estimated 700 civilians, according to a Gaza human rights group, in Israel's offensive. Thirteen Israelis -- 10 soldiers and three civilians hit by Hamas rockets -- were killed. (Writing by Ari Rabinovitch; Editing by Dominic Evans)
