HOUSTON, Sept 1 (Reuters) - Hurricane Gustav weakened to a tropical storm and was expected to slow further and lose energy over the next day as it moves across Louisiana and into Texas, the U.S. National Hurricane Center said on Monday. In its 11 p.m. EDT (0300 GMT Tuesday) advisory, the hurricane center said maximum winds for Gustav, which hit the Louisiana coast as a Category 2 hurricane earlier on Monday, had dropped to 60 miles per hour (95 kph). "Continued weakening is forecast and Gustav is expected to become a tropical depression on Tuesday," the Miami-based hurricane center said.
