ATLANTA, March 2 (Reuters) - At least six people were killed and 29 injured on Friday when a bus carrying a U.S. university baseball team fell off an overpass onto a freeway, a police spokesman in Atlanta said.

"Six are dead, 20 walking wounded, 9 serious injuries," said Joe Cobb, spokesman with the Atlanta Police Department.

The bus was carrying a baseball team from Bluffton University in Ohio. It fell off an exit bridge onto the southbound lanes of Interstate 75 -- a major highway -- near downtown Atlanta and TV images showed the shattered wreck lying on its side.

Cobb told Fox News the cause of the crash was not immediately clear.
