Canadian avalanche kills two, injures three

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 3 (Reuters) - The threat of new avalanches hampered efforts on Tuesday to recover the bodies of two skiers killed by a snow slide on a remote mountain in northwestern British Columbia.

Three other skiers who were injured in the avalanche on Monday north of Stewart, British Columbia, were airlifted to safety and one was hospitalized, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police said.

Police said the dead skiers were a Canadian woman and a man who was believed to be Japanese, but their names and other details were not released.

The victims were part of a guided backcountry skiing trip in which helicopters are used to reach wilderness mountains that are difficult to get to by land.
