Bomb found after top Chile finance officials speak

SANTIAGO, Oct 3 (Reuters) - Chilean police defused a bomb planted at the headquarters of a business group just hours after Chile's economy minister and Central Bank president addressed a forum there, local media said on Friday.

Police official Julio Gordon told local television and radio the bomb was defused and taken for analysis. A police spokesman confirmed an operation had taken place at the building of the Federation of Chilean Industry, but declined to give further details.

Television channel Canal 13 showed footage of a remote controlled police robot removing the device, which local media said was made of TNT explosives and a timer and was primed.

It was unclear when the explosive device was planted in the building, and there were no details on who might be behind the incident.

The business forum passed off uneventfully, and Economy Minister Andres Velasco and Central Bank President Jose De Gregorio had both left the building before the alarm was raised by an anonymous telephone call, a Reuters correspondent who attended the forum said.
