Strong 6.1 magnitude quake rocks southern Mexico

MEXICO CITY, July 5 (Reuters) - A strong 6.1 magnitude earthquake rocked the poor southern Mexican state of Chiapas on Thursday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake struck 24 miles (39 km) from Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital of the coffee-growing state.

Mexican television said no damage or injuries had initially been reported.
