Homemade device explodes at Brazil embassy in Chile

SANTIAGO, Aug 6 (Reuters) - A homemade device exploded at the doors of the Brazilian Embassy in Chile's capital Santiago early on Wednesday, causing minor damages but no injuries, police and embassy officials said.

Police said they were investigating the security video images of an individual seen running from the scene shortly after the bomb went off, cracking windows on the embassy building.

A spokesman from the Brazilian Foreign Ministry said there were no serious damages from the blast on the embassy building, located in downtown Santiago near the La Moneda palace, Chile's presidential seat of government.

No pamphlets were found near the scene claiming responsibility.

The explosion comes about a month before the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 1973, coup that started the 17-year dictatorship of Augusto Pinochet, a day typically marked by protests.

Small explosive devices were detonated in Santiago in March in the run up to a day to commemorate the killing of youths during Chile's 1973-1990 dictatorship.
