BUENOS AIRES, May 7 (Reuters) - Argentine health officials confirmed on Thursday the country's first case of H1N1 flu.

The case was detected in an Argentine tourist who had traveled to Mexico, Health Minister Graciela Ocana said in a news conference. The man who was confirmed to have been infected with the virus was released from the hospital and is in good health after receiving treatment, she said.

A new type of flu broke out in Mexico last month and some 2,000 cases have now been confirmed in 25 countries around the world, with 44 deaths in Mexico and two in the United States.

Brazil earlier in the day confirmed four cases of the influenza, which has been called swine flu.

Argentina is still studying 55 suspected cases, health ministry official Carlos Soratti told the news conference.

Argentina suspended direct flights from Mexico on April 28 and has not lifted the ban. Mexico has strongly criticized the measure as discriminatory.

The Argentine who tested positive flew from Mexico to Argentina on April 25, and started feeling flu symptoms 48 hours later, the minister said.

She said no one who had been in contact with the man has so far tested positive for the flu. (Writing by Fiona Ortiz; Editing by Eric Walsh)
