WASHINGTON, Jan 8 (Reuters) - President George W. Bush will address Americans on his new Iraq plan on Wednesday at 9 p.m. EST (0200 GMT) from the White House, spokesman Tony Snow announced.

"The president will be addressing the nation on his plan for a way forward in Iraq and the global war on terror," Snow said.

He said the White House had asked U.S. television networks to show the speech live, and they were considering it.

Snow said Bush was putting the final touches on his plan, which officials say is expected to include an increase of as many as 20,000 U.S. troops in Iraq.
