Brush fires break out across Southern California

LOS ANGELES, April 12 (Reuters) - Wind-whipped brush fires broke out across Southern California on Thursday, destroying at least two homes in an exclusive Los Angeles suburb and threatening a mobile home park.

Television pictures showed homes in the posh Los Angeles neighborhood of Beverly Glen in flames or consumed by a fire that raced down from tinder-dry hillsides.

There were no immediate reports of injuries.

Southern California has seen little rain over the past year as it struggles through drought conditions and the flames were being driven by high winds that also brought down power lines.

Some 12,000 utility customers in the Los Angeles area were reported to be without power.
