OTTAWA, April 14 (Reuters) - A young woman Canadian soldier was killed on Monday in southern Afghanistan and four other soldiers were wounded when their armored vehicle hit a roadside bomb, the military said on Tuesday.

Karine Blair, 21, was the second female soldier from Canada to die on active duty in Afghanistan. The first was killed in 2006.

Canada has now lost 117 soldiers since first deploying troops to Afghanistan in late 2002. About 2,800 Canadian soldiers are based in the southern city of Kandahar on a mission that is due to end in 2011. (Reporting by David Ljunggren; editing by Peter Galloway)
