Peru earthquake death toll rises to 400 - govt

LIMA, Aug 16 (Reuters) - Peru raised on Thursday the death toll from a powerful 8.0 earthquake the night before to "about 400" people, the chief of staff to President Alan Garcia said.

The earthquake knocked down houses and structures south of Lima.
