MEXICO CITY, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Authorities sent 1,200 police into a Mexican prison on Monday to contain violence after a fight left four inmates dead, officials said.

Some 30 inmates at the Neza-Bordo prison, with a population of 3,800, had battled for control of a dorm area, said Carlos Gil, corrections spokesman for the State of Mexico.

About 1,200 police were deployed to regain control of the prison near Mexico City, where they searched for drugs and weapons, Gil added.
