QUITO, April 19 (Reuters) - At least 15 people died and 35 were injured when a fire ignited by fireworks swept through a nightclub on Saturday in Quito, Ecuador, emergency officials said.

Rescue workers continued to search for bodies after the fire, which was among the worst in a decade in the hilly capital, where restaurants and clubs often lack proper emergency exits.

"The fire was brought under control ... we still don't know the number of dead," Red Cross spokesman Henry Ochoa told a local radio station, adding that the fire was caused by fireworks set off in the building. (Reporting by Alexandra Valencia; Writing by Alonso Soto; Editing by Eric Walsh)
