SAN SALVADOR, Dec 20 (Reuters) - A series of small earthquakes damaged houses in rural EL Salvador on Wednesday, causing emergency authorities to evacuate dozens of residents, but no injuries were reported.

The National Territorial Studies Service said nearly 200 small tremors hit the west of the Central American country, the strongest with a 4.6 magnitude.

Emergency services evacuated 90 people from 30 damaged homes in the town of Atiquizaya, 54 miles (87 km) from the capital San Salvador and near the Ilamatepec volcano, which erupted last year, spurting hot rocks, ash and hot water on coffee plantations.

Carlos Lopez, spokesman for the Salvadoran Red Cross, said nobody had been hurt by the tremors.
